CHECKPOINT+: help us better understand barriers to accessing sexual health services

At BCN Checkpoint, we work every day to promote sexual health, early HIV diagnosis and access to high-quality community-based services. But we know that not everyone reaches these services under the same conditions.

LGBTQIA+ migrants face specific barriers when accessing sexual health services.

That is why we have launched CHECKPOINT+, a community-based study that aims to listen directly to the experiences, needs and proposals of LGBTQIA+ migrants living in Catalonia.

What does the study involve?

The first phase of CHECKPOINT+ consists of an anonymous online questionnaire, available in 10 languages: Catalan, Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese.

The questionnaire asks about migration experiences, sexual health, access to services, perceived barriers and proposals for improvement.

Your participation will help us design community-based interventions that are more accessible, welcoming and adapted to the real needs of the community.

Who can participate?

Anyone can participate if they meet the following criteria:

  • Are 18 years old or older
  • Live in Catalonia
  • Were born outside Spain
  • Identify as a man who has sex with other men, or as a trans or non-binary person

People living with HIV and people taking PrEP can also participate. Every experience matters.

How can I participate?

You can access the questionnaire through the QR code on the campaign materials or through this link: redcap.link/checkpointplus

What happens next?

In a second phase, we will interview a sample of participants to explore their experiences, needs and proposals in more depth.

Interviews will be compensated with €100 for participants’ collaboration.

Based on the proposals collected, we will work on the design and implementation of community-based interventions to help more LGBTQIA+ migrants access BCN Checkpoint for the first time.

Why is participation important?

With CHECKPOINT+, we want to:

  • Listen to voices that are often underrepresented
  • Identify real barriers to sexual health services
  • Collect proposals coming directly from the community
  • Reduce stigma related to HIV, migration, gender identity and sexuality
  • Improve access to early HIV and STI diagnosis
  • Build more inclusive, flexible and adapted services

Take part and help us share CHECKPOINT+ among your contacts!
